Emergency Brake Bracket Modifications

Basically, I cut the bracket parallel to the plane of the caliper track, added a spacer, and welded it back together. Since the rotor radius increased by 0.45" I added a 0.5" spacer since it was a nice round number and it gave me a little more space to play with. Here are some pictures of the bracket in various stages of the process. Notice the spacer has 'keys' on both sides that fit into notches in the bracket. This gives me some simple mechanical strength in the direction of the braking force in case my welds aren't the best in the world (they aren't).
Bracket as supplied with the kit:
First cut (no going back now):
First spacer welded in (with some paint stripping):
Welds ground flush:
Second cut (done where the angle of the bracket was as close to parallel with the first cut as I could find):
Second spacer tacked in (note the interference keys):
More crappy welding:
Second weld ground flush:

Rear shot of the bracket on the car (red circles show the mounting points):
I still need to clean them up and give them some high temp paint or powder coating, but this was enough work for one day... it looks simple enough, but it took about eight hours to do both brackets.
